Alexandria West

As its name suggests, Alexandria West is located in the western most part of the City of Alexandria. It lies just south of Bailey’s Crossroads and east of Annandale. The history of Alexandria West traces through a similar vein as that of many other communities in Northern Virginia. At the eastern edge of the community lies Fort Ward, the fifth largest fort built to protect Washington, D.C. during the Civil War. Today, Fort Ward is a historical site owned by the City of Alexandria. The grounds have been restored and are open to the public.
